Match report:

North Devon District Girls U15 got their season off to a brilliant start with a convincing victory over South Devon U15 girls. Looking very professional and business like wearing kit sponsored by Mash Sport and Ram the girls in blue (and pink) bowled South Devon out in 28 over’s for 78.

Playing on a fabulous wicket, in perfect weather at West Buckland School; Manager, Jan Witheridge was delighted with the girl’s performance. We could have been a bit tighter in the field, but the girls have worked hard all winter for this competition- coached by Mark Overton (NDCC), Martin Brice (Barnstaple and Pilton) and Rob Hearn (NDCC) spectators, parents and umpires were all, quite rightly impressed with the girls performance and team spirit. The charming South Devon Girls acquitted themselves well under the benevolent and charming management of Ian Western. Stacey and Chisolm bowled solidly and T. Swart had the best of the batting and was unlucky to be out to a demonstration of great fielding from Anna Cherrington.

For North Devon, Captain Emily Ward (Filleigh 10 for 3 off 5) did most of the damage bowling with additional great performances from Claire Reynolds (Hatherleigh) and eleven year old Lauren Bowden (Chulmleigh) taking 2 wickets a piece, and Millie and Annabel Squires (Filleigh) taking one each. Great support in the field from younger members Ellie Ansell (NDCC), Evie Risebro and Holly Moser (Chulmleigh) and catches by Bea Auty and Emilly Ward, a fabulous run out from deep in the field, courtesy of the accurate arm of Anna Cherrington, all contributed to an exciting first innings.

North Devon went in to bat. Emily Ward (Filleigh) opened the batting steadily with Anna Cherrington (Hatherleigh 21 Not Out). Some super fielding from the South Devon girls made Ward and Cherrington work hard for their runs.  When Emily was bowled by M. Chisholm, dynamo Alli Kelly (NDCC) stormed onto the pitch and scored a quick 32 to take the match. North Devon 79 for 1 off 17.
